The 20th of August saw FightKnights, together with the collaboration of Level Academy, host the qualifiers for the Maltese representative for Street Fighter 6 at the Global Esports Games 2023, organised by the Global Esports Federation games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A low turnout resulted in only a 6-man bracket, but the games were still intense and close, with Ilija “animegeorge” Stankovic coming out as the winner without dropping a single set.
Seeded #1, Stankovic went into the bracket as the heavy favourite to win the whole thing, having also recorded a 1st place at FightKnights #2 back in July, making him the undisputed number one Street Fighter 6 player in the Maltese Islands on Cammy. Hot on his heels was once again “Klyde” with his JP, placing second in both of the above occasions, only dropping sets against Stankovic and meeting a total of four times, twice in Winner Finals and in Grand Finals in both tournaments. Third place went to ZANN, who was able to dispatch of newcomer Papa Flergu quite confidently with a 3-0 in losers semifinals, before being defeated at the hands of Klyde in Loser Finals.
Stankovic will now be Malta’s representative for Street Fighter 6 for the Global Esports Federation games which will be held in December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before travelling to Riyadh, Stankovic will have to get through Regional Qualifiers on the 7th – 8th October!
