The Malta National Esports Team is set to make history at the upcoming Esports Mediterranean Games 2026, held in Bar, Montenegro as part of the Montenegro Future Festival between 24–26 April 2026. This milestone moment would not be possible without the invaluable support of GamingMalta, whose continued commitment has helped the national team represent Malta on an international stage in such a significant way. Thank you also to the Mediterranean Esports Federation for organising the event.
This marks the first-ever participation of the Malta Esports Association in the Esports Mediterranean Games, with three esports athletes competing across two major titles: Tekken 8 and eFootball. The selected players have each earned their place through determination, national competition, and standout performances.
Representing Malta in the Tekken 8 male category is Eros “AbsoluteZero” Zammit. His journey began in the national circuit organized by City of Fighters and Miyagi no Tekken throughout 2026. After an intense season, AbsoluteZero clinched his spot by winning the decider tournament in spectacular fashion. He then carried that momentum into the European Qualifiers, where he staged an impressive comeback to defeat strong opponents from Spain and Serbia, securing his place in the offline finals in Montenegro.
In the Tekken 8 female competition, Francesca “Cynder Dragoneye” Brincat will represent Malta, making history as the first female esports athlete to officially compete under the Malta National Esports Team. Her selection follows a strong showing in the same national circuit organized by City of Fighters and Miyagi no Tekken, where she emerged as the highest-placed female competitor, earning her rightful place on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Malcolm “Fantasystrikes” Said will compete in eFootball, bringing experience and consistency to the Maltese lineup. Malcolm secured his qualification by winning the most recent national event held at EsportsPlaza. This will be his third time representing the Malta National Esports Team under the Malta Esports Association. In addition to his esports credentials, Malcolm has also proudly represented Malta in eFootball competitions organized by the Malta Football Association, further demonstrating his versatility and commitment.
As Malta prepares to take part in this prestigious regional competition for the first time, the team carries with it not only ambition but also the pride of a growing esports community. Support from fans and the wider public will be vital as these athletes step onto the international stage.
We encourage everyone to rally behind Team Malta and show their support during the Esports Mediterranean Games 2026.
