Team Malta returns from EGE 2023

FantiFlames Prior to the European Games Esports Championship 2023

Malta has participated in the inaugural event of the European Games Esports Championship, which was held between the 29th of June and the 2nd of July, 2023, in Katowice, Poland.

The Malta Esports Association, through its membership with the Global Esports Federation and in partnership with Malta Sports For All, took part in the European Games Esports Championship 2023, with the attendance of Kersten James Chircop, Vice-President of the Malta Esports Association, and Malcolm Said, who represented the National Esports Team in the eFootball Open competition.

The Global Esports Federation organised the European Games Esports Championship in partnership with the European Olympic Committee, and the event was run in parallel to the 3rd European Games held in Kraków-Małopolska and which provided qualification opportunities for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The European Games Esports Championship 2023 held competitions for eFootball (Open), eFootball (Women) and Rocket League (Open). Malta participated in the eFootball (Open) competition and was represented by the National Champion, Malcolm Said, who had previously won the National Qualifiers organised by Esports Plaza and the Malta Esports Association. 100 esports athletes from 28 countries competed in the inaugural European Games Esports Championship 2023.

Malta was placed in Group D of the eFootball (Open) competition with Luxembourg, Iceland, the Netherlands, Serbia, Lithuania and Montenegro. Malcolm secured wins over Iceland and Lithuania but unfortunately lost to Luxembourg, Netherlands, Serbia and Montenegro to place an overall 5th in Group D. Malta was eliminated from the competition in the Group Stage.

Malcolm displayed an admirable performance, especially for his first-ever international tournament, and we look forward to him representing the country again.
